International Women’s Day: 5 ways women can protect their health

  • Maintain a healthy weight
    • Obese women were five times more likely to suffer cardiovascular disease, and 12 times more likely to develop cancer. However, small weight reductions lower a woman’s risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer by 20%.
       
  • Get chest pains checked out
    • Beware of heart attack warning signs. Women need to take chest pain seriously even if they don’t have the typical symptoms men have.

  • Look after your bones
      • Higher risk of developing osteoporosis than me.  Hopping or carefully jumping rope for two minutes a day could strengthen hip bones.


         
    • Drink plenty of water
      • Lower risks for for Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) which are more common in women
         
    • If possible try breastfeeding
      • Breastfeeding has been shown to have health benefits for moms as well as babies, lowering risks for high blood pressure
