Philadelphia Community Health Center Career Night
Spectrum Health Services hosted the Philadelphia Community Health Career Night! We had an excellent turnout.
It was inspiring to hear from all the new and up-and-coming talent across medical fields and network in a collaborative atmosphere. We also had great partners, including PACHC and the O’Conner Group. We are so proud to be part of this community and to help our rising medical professionals as they develop their careers. It’s clear that healthcare is going through a major transformation right now, and it’s an exciting time for the field. What struck me the most was the commitment and passion of those present. Everyone is looking to better themselves and the healthcare system. We also gifted three attendees with a new iPad 10. The night was extraordinary. FQHC’s are the place to be.
Thanksgiving Turkey Donation
We provided a donation of turkeys for the Thanksgiving basket giveaway food drive.
The holidays can be a difficult time for many in our community, so we’re so thankful to be able to join the Resident Action Committee for a shared commitment to helping those in need.
Mayfair Thanksgiving Parade
We had an amazing time participating in the Mayfair Thanksgiving Parade!
We loved giving out information and Spectrum goodies to the community and dancing in the streets! It was a blast watching everyone come together to celebrate and have a great time!
Community Fall Fest
Attending the fall fest was such a wonderfully rewarding experience for us.
We had a blast giving out education, flu shots and blood pressure checks and seeing all the happy faces in the crowd.
Church Healthfair
Spectrum proudly attended a health fair held by Vine Memorial Baptist Church and had the opportunity to provide blood pressure checks.
It was great to see so many people taking an active role in their own healthcare and staying informed with our provided patient education and quality services.
National Health Center Week
Monday through Thursday packed with patient and staff giveaways, raffles, food and festivities.
Muffin Monday
It’s Muffin Monday here at Spectrum! Who says Mondays have to be dull?
Our staff got to enjoy a delicious breakfast of marvelous moist muffins and fresh coffee to start their day off. This is just the start. Let National Health Center Week begin.

Water Ice Wednesday
It was all about showing gratitude to our patients!
We celebrated Patient Appreciation Day with delicious freebies and gifts like water ice, pretzels, jar openers, and first aid kits. Today was a great day here at Spectrum – to celebrate National Health Center Week, the friendly folks from the Enjoy A Bowl food truck stopped by and treated us to free, delicious, and healthy Chipotle or Sweet Onion wraps. We’re so thankful for their generosity!
Thirsty Thursday
Thirsty for thankfulness, not spirits!
Staff got to unwind with our non-alcoholic delights and indulge in a charcuterie board feast. Every sip and nibble is a celebration of joy and refreshment! Cheers to a flavorful Thursday of being thankful and mocktail magic.
Councilmember Curtis Jones Summer Jazz Series
Empowering our community with knowledge and rhythm at Councilmember Curtis Jones’ Summer Jazz Festival – Spectrum brings the groove and vital health resources to harmonize well-being with the soulful sounds of amazing bands.
Christian Stronghold Church – Pearls of Grace Women’s Ministry Presents Outdoor Wellness Event
Spectrum showed out at the outdoor wellness event held at Christian Stronghold Baptist Church.
It was a powerful feeling connecting with women in the community doing cardio, stretching, prayer and meditation. Spectrum is the place to be if you want a similar full-body experience. We treat the whole person and were glad to participate and educate our community on the great opportunity it is to be a patient with us. A huge shout out to Spectrum’s Dr. Myra Rutland; the event was one for the books.
Cottman Avenue Grand Opening
We celebrated the grand opening of Spectrum’s newest center which will expand healthcare options for families in the area while providing more job opportunities to the local community.
Now, more residents in the Northeast can easily access care closer to home.
2024 Highlights
Here are the events we joined and hosted in 2024.
Spectrum Staff Food Drive
A huge shout out is in order for the Spectrum Staff. We held an internal food drive and the results were amazing.
The team here works hard and gives back harder. We appreciate every employee who brought something in and donated food. You were able to help fill the belly of someone who wasn’t sure where their next meal would come from.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
A day off turned into a day of service for the Spectrum Spirit Team and their families.
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day we partnered with the Christian St. YMCA to make blessing bags for the less fortunate. Spectrum also donated nearly 1,000 toiletries.
Spectrum Blood Drive
For National Blood Donor Month, Spectrum teamed up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive.
With the unity of the community and the staff, we were able to get enough units to save an estimated 48 lives.
Pink Goes Red Heart Health Event
Spreading awareness and wellness for National Heart Health Month with the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated at the Pink Goes Red event.
Our very own Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joanne Brice, connected with a group of individuals seeking more information on heart health and delivered an informative presentation. Spectrum Medical Assistants showed out and conducted blood pressure screenings to promote overall well-being! We were glad to be a part of an event that was such a great way to inform and inspire better health practices.
YMCA Healthy Kids Day
Spectrum spent a beautiful weekend at Christian St. YMCA for Healthy Kids Day in the park.
We spread awareness on health and dental care with our CMO and CDO to support our community’s journey towards wellness, empowering these kids and families in South Philadelphia to lead healthy, vibrant lives together!
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging Health Fair
Spectrum participated in the PCA (Philadelphia Corporation for Aging) health fair. Calling it an afternoon of health and happiness is an understatement.
The energy in the room was truly lifted with karaoke and art. We were glad to be able to bridge the gap so members can access our world-class healthcare right around the corner. It was also National Senior Health and Fitness Day. We hope all of you continue to live healthy and happy lives.
Spectrum Visits the Capitol
Spectrum proudly stood outside the PA State Capitol building in Harrisburg, ready to advocate for community health centers like Spectrum at the PACHC (Pennsylvania Association of Community Health Centers) Advocacy Day.
We spoke up for: 1. Protections for health centers related to the 340B discount program. 2. Funding for FQHCs in the PA state budget. 3. Support for the PA Primary Health Care Practitioner Program.
Veronica Hill Milbourne, Dr. Myra Rutland and Theresa Moran met with political officials and staff of State Senator Vincent Hughes and many PA House Representatives. Spectrum strong, we continue to push for the support we need to support our communities. Learn about PACHC advocacy
Men’s Health Month Prostate Cancer Information Session
Spectrum was invited to be a part of a spectacular community center event right in our West Philadelphia neighborhood.
We were graced with a panel of four male health professionals who answered questions about prostate cancer. Men and women alike came and left with knowledge that should be shared with all the men in our lives. June is Men’s Health Month, and we were glad to show the community that Spectrum is a health home for everyone, especially men looking for a screening or a local second opinion.
YMCA Juneteenth Celebration
Spectrum was invited to the Christian St. YMCA to give blood pressure screenings and be a health resource for Juneteenth weekend.
We had a block party inside and it was a truly fun day. We hope we were able to help everyone looking for a new world-class healthcare home. Thank you to the Y for inviting us, and thank you to everyone who made it out and helped make this first Juneteenth celebration spectacular.
Pillars of Health Class Series
Spectrum hosted a six-week class series on the pillars of health.
Our very own Dr. Akilah Bates and Behavioral Health Consultant Hilary Reichlin created a hands-on learning experience for the community about 6 health topics: building meaningful relationships and sharing meals, getting restful sleep, reducing toxins and managing stress, good nutrition skills, time in nature (as seen below), and exercise and physical activity. A special thank you to our partner Get Fresh Daily and everyone who took part in the series.
Philadelphia 19th Police District Fun Day
This day in the sun was so very fun. Summer camps in the area visited with kids of all ages.
They had yummy food, water slides, drum-line performances, resource tables, dunk tanks and more, all provided by the 19th Police District. The smiles on the kids’ faces reminded us why we do what we do for the health and wellness of our communities’ future.
Vine Memorial Baptist Church Health Fair
Spectrum had an amazing time at the Vine Memorial Baptist Church Health Fair.
We were able to provide blood pressure screenings, health resources, and awesome giveaways to all the lovely church members. It was such a blast connecting with everyone and we had a successful day in the community. Thank you to everyone who visited the table and supported.
NHCW Agricultural Workers Day
We celebrated Agricultural Worker Health Center Day and showed our appreciation for the hardworking farmers who help feed our communities.
Spectrum is committed to bridging the gap on food insecurity and providing access to healthy foods for all. A big thank you to the Food Trust for their support with the cooking demonstrations, fresh produce, and fun smoothie bike! Thank you all for making a difference in our community.
Children’s Health Day
Spectrum hosted our Children’s Health Day and it was a blast!
We had a bounce house, games, trivia, and face painting for the kiddos. A big thank you to everyone who came out, ate with us, danced with us, and joined in the fun. Congratulations to all the winners who received giveaways: our new Spectrum book bags filled with supplies, and fruit and vegetable baskets. We had such a great time and can’t wait for the next event!
Peace From The Pit
Spectrum was thrilled to be a part of the incredible Peace From The Pit community event just a few blocks away from our Haverford Avenue home base.
We joined forces to promote peace in the streets, stop gun violence, and offer health resources for all. Let’s keep spreading love and positivity in our neighborhood.
Spectrum Energy Series
The community joined us for our Energy Series, where we explored the energetic nature of our bodies for wellness.
Topics ranged from bioelectricity to sound therapy, acupressure to journaling and manifestation, and structured water. We also had healthy giveaways of fruits and vegetables from our amazing partner Get Fresh Daily.
Tenants’ Rights Philadelphia Workshop
Spectrum is determined to keep stepping out and meeting our patients where they are.
We look at the needs in the community and provide resources to help people outside of their healthcare journey. Thank you to the LCD housing initiative for helping us make that connection and bridge the gap in legal education on tenants’ rights.
Mayfair Third Thursdays Night Market
Spectrum was the table to be at for anyone looking for a one-stop shop for world-class health services.
The Mayfair community gathered and paid us a visit to learn about our top-notch care and take advantage of some awesome giveaways. The night market was the place to be this summer.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Mobile Digital Mammography
Spectrum and UnitedHealthcare partnered to bring FREE mammograms to the women of our community.

On-Site Voter Registration Booth
Your vote counts! Spectrum is not just a health center, we are a community center.
Spectrum gave our patients a chance to register to vote for the 2024 election. Thank you to the League of Women Voters PA for helping us empower our community and for being a fantastic resource.
The Spectrum Pharmacy Grand Opening
On October 31st, the Cottman location officially opened the Spectrum Pharmacy.
As the first of its kind, the Spectrum Pharmacy is paving the way for a True one-stop shop for our community. We filled our very first patient prescription! Join us in celebrating world-class service and affordable prices. Together, we’re striving to serve YOU better every day!

WURD Radio brought the community together at our health center for their inspiring “Sassy Seniors” series!
Hosted by Tonya Pendleton on “Reality Check,” this event highlighted vital aging-related healthcare needs.
Our Spectrum executive leadership were interviewed and shared insights, with a special appearance by board member Rev. George Clark. We welcomed everyone, patients and staff alike, to join in meaningful discussions!

Mayfair Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who lit up Cottman Avenue at the Annual Mayfair Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony!
